Take My Hand

They came from sea and stole from me
And tried to take it all
My life my art my breath my heart
My children great and small

They dig deep and did not weep
To drink my rich wells dry
To bleed to take to wound to break
And leave us all to die

To you who try hard not to cry
To see what they have done
Cry not for me and my family
Who have been left with none

Do not be fooled

Take my hand and understand
That I will not be beat
Hear my song my will is strong
I dance on tired feet

Take my hand and understand
That it can be employed
It is skilled and will rebuild
All that they've destroyed

Take my hand and understand
The work that's made it strong
Planting the field and hoping the field
Can feed us all year long

Take my hand and understand
That I am planting seeds
And all the waste will be replaced
I will fulfill my needs

Take my hand and understand
The world in which I live
I haven't much to see and touch
But what I have I give

Take my hand and understand
The games I have to play
The songs I sing the joy I bring
To all who pass this way

Take my hand and understand
It reaches for the sky
My spirit sings the echo rings
My children's lullaby

Take my hand and understand
My native peace I seek
Take my hand and love my land
I am Mozambique
